New Games to Play on VR in 2021

While video game consoles are getting more powerful with every generation, the overall gaming experience is pretty much the same. While the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are way more powerful than their predecessors, you still sit on the couch—or whatever you feel comfortable sitting on—and use the controller the same old way.

Sure, the graphics are better and the controllers have more flashy features. But the gaming is the same. And that’s what makes VR (Virtual Reality) games so awesome. These games give you a level of immersion and a different experience compared to traditional games.

Best part? VR games put the power of the current generation of gaming consoles and gaming PCs to good use. And that’s why we’re super-excited about the best VR 2021 games.

Whether you’ve been playing VR games since the early days of the technology or just found out that virtual reality games are a thing, you’re guaranteed to have lots of fun with the following VR 2021 titles:

Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars represents one of the rare cases in which successful movies were turned into successful video games. In most cases, when you have a video game that is based on a movie or vice versa, the result is not awesome. Mortal Kombat, Alone in the Dark, and Street Fighter are just some of the cringe-worthy cases.

Anyway, with Star Wars Squadron VR, you’ll get a space combat game that truly takes advantage of the power of new generation consoles. Even if you’re not a Star Wars fan, you’ll agree that flying one of those TIE fighters is a way better experience with VR. The campaign mode in this game lets you fly different spacecraft as a New Republic or Empire pilot. Fun stuff.

Among Us VR

Even though Among Us has been around since 2018, it exploded in popularity in fall 2020 to become one of the mega-hit games of the past year. Thanks to Twitch streamers, this game became one of the most popular mobile games of all time, before making its way to PCs and pretty much every other gaming console.

The best thing about the VR version of this game is that it’s created by fans, and you don’t need a VR headset to play it. All you have to do is download VRChat from Steam, and you’re good to go. The game plays pretty much the same way, except that it’s now in 3D. Whether you play it with or without a VR headset, it’s a more fun version of this addictive game.

Hitman 3

Hitman is a successful game franchise with unique and fun gameplay. And with the recently-released Hitman 3, you’ll get to experience this engaging gameplay in VR. While Hitman 3 is not a VR-exclusive game, it does support VR on different consoles. And when you use that VR headset, you’ll experience being Agent 47 in a completely new way.

Since Hitman 3—and Hitman games in general—is pretty much a Sandbox Game, it’s highly replayable. You can complete different missions in different ways, which makes the VR element even better.

The Climb 2

The Climb is one of the games that was made specifically for VR technology. This first-person climbing game allows you to use virtual reality to experience rock climbing without the risk of falling, breaking every bone in your body, and dying an agonizing death. For most people, the offer is pretty tempting.

In The Climb 2, you’ll get more interesting climbs with breathtaking scenery, thanks to the improved graphics capability of the next-gen VR headset, Quest 2. Since this game was developed in collaboration with professional climbers, it’s as close to the real thing as you can get.

Beat Saber

Beat Saber was first introduced in 2018. While it would have been more accurate if it was called Beat and Light Saber, we’re willing to ignore the inaccurate name, since the game is super-fun. The game gives you virtual red and blue lightsabers, plays a beat, and sends blue and red cubes flying your way. With your VR headset on, you have to slice the cubes with the right color saber. Pretty simple and fun.

In Beat Saber OST 4, which is coming out in 2021, the theme will be guitars and metal music. This should breathe new life in an already-great VR game that people never get bored of.

Maskmaker

This game is set in a realm that is ruled by a mask maker. And of course, these are no ordinary masks. As this mask maker’s apprentice, you’ll learn how to make magical masks that allow you to see through other characters’ eyes, and move across the game’s universe.

You’ll first need to gather the right materials for making the mask, craft the masks, and start exploring new areas. The whole mask crafting experience and the concept of using masks to explore the world, in general, makes the game pretty unique.

To Wrap It Up

VR games are getting better every year. And whether you’re an avid gamer who is bored of traditional games or want to explore the world of virtual reality in general, the games we’ve mentioned are all worth trying. You’ll get to literally ‘experience the games’ and try something you’ve tried before.
